Miguel Xavier performs at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation

Miguel Xavier presents a concert with scenic direction by Ricardo Pais, in the next 20th july, by 21:30h, at Jardim de Verão of Calouste Gulbenkian Foudation.

In everything that has been said and written of the intrinsically fadista quality of Miguel Xavier, 23 years, it hasn’t been approached the musical project in which Miguel Xavier applied – what surprises in these times of volatile and temporary wage. What Miguel Xavier sings with his remarkable voice and authenticity owes a lot to his detachment of ambition, respect for the Fado past, etc, but mostly to Miguel Amaral guidance and his guitarist and composing qualities. Features, by the way, common to the other intepreters (the Teixeiras), also them, compositors. One kind of a “family”, as special as Portugal Norths, where they are from.

In the Jardim, we will test the effect of the tendential hieratism and performativity of an art that we associate with enclosed or at least more intimate spaces. We have to frame a whole new landscape, and sound and light designed with a unexpected elasticity as our fantasy of shadows and figurations, a humbly “other” performativity. The traditional “scene” tends to delimit spaces and horizons. In these circunstances, the “scenic direction” takes o Jardim as a privilege, to the infinitely theatrical limit. The musical alignment itself is where it goes. Let the eyes hear.
